Island Getaway Episode II: Last Drops of Summer

May 30, 2007

I knew I had to take a one last glimpse of the beach, bury my toes into the sand, swim against the current, taste fresh salt water, wait for the glorious sunset, catch the sunrise, look up at the clear sky - before my summer ends…And I bid summer farewell somewhere within 3.5km inland from San Antonio, Zambales.

When Mich texted me a week ago about the trip she has planned, I was apprehensive to say yes since I wasn’t even sure if my parents would approve of it. Most of the time, I still feel like a baby because they treat me like one and sometimes, I like it - but not during these times. But remember what I tell you, they don’t know how I oftentimes get what I want when I want it. In short, I was able to convince them with my begging and charming ways. Wahaha.

Days before Zambales trip, I was supposed to go to Caramoan with Bestie. But since I didn’t want to use 3 days of vacation leaves for this one, I just told her to cross me out. At the last minute, I texted Mich and asked her if the invitation’s still open and I got a yes. Ha! Got ya! The spontaneous effect of instinctive decisions.

Road tripping is a total adventure - knowing where to go but not knowing exactly how to get there. Luckily, we have Brian, the navigator, he’s been there once and he has a non-detailed map with him. Haha. Great. Thanks to the road signs though. Finally, we arrived at our resting place - Megan’s Beach Resort. They have aircon and non-aircon rooms which can accomodate people from couples to clans. You can even request extra matresses at no extra cost. Well, we chose the cabin type room with fan. We actually didn’t feel much of the heat since the heaven’s been giving up rain showers from afternoon through night fall. There are periods when the sky lets up, but the weather was, ugh, rainy. The sky only cleared up during those times when we had to take pictures of the sunset and before we started singing. Haha! Nice Candice! You’re really a powerful singer. She takes everyone by a storm - literally. Kidding.:)

Of course, di mawawala ang inuman at pulutang inihaw. But I’m telling you, this was the only outing I’ve been to where I downed only a few shots, missed a card game, slept early (as in 12mn. I usually don’t sleep.haha) and avoided questions about my love life or lack of it. Haha. Still, I ended up happy. Maybe I found a reason not to get drunk and to get lost in dirty card tricks; a reason to zonk out, dream and get up in the morning without a throbing headache; and a reason to not feel bad or think about anything by answering questions like, “Why are you still single?”. Better that I keep them guessing, wondering why an Angel hasn’t found her wings yet or used her wings for flying. :P

At 6:30 in the morning after eating a hearty breakfast prepared by our chefs, we headed to Capones Island in two boats. It’s about 20mins boat ride off the shores of Pundakit (O, diba? Sounds like Phuket, Thailand.;P). Capones Island strangely resembles the paradise where Lost series was shot (I think it was in Hawaii). The huge rocks, the dawdling loom of waves, crystal clear water and white sand. It has white sand, but it’s not as fine as Bora. It’s mostly crammed with sea shells and beautiful irregular rocks.  But as you approach the shoreline, the sand gets finer. Enough of describing the place. Why don’t you just look at the pictures, eh?

here, at last.

We really wanted to spend the whole day there, but we couldn’t. We needed to get back to Manila after lunch and while we could still get off of the island. Didn’t want to risk being stranded there when a rumored typhoon comes. So that did it. There’s always a next time and a new place to explore. :P

We had our lunch at Meat Plus, Subic. I love burgers that go with a dessert! Just what I’d been imagining that moment. Perfect!I also bought souvenir items from Zambales and Subic. I didn’t buy a lot since most of the items are not actually “unique” in form and quality. In fact, you can even find some of it at tiangges or accessory shops around Manila. So I just paid for a few bracelets and pearl earrings for my Mom. I wanted to buy food, but I have no idea on food specialties in Zambales. Are there any?

Whew! There’s still a lot to tell about my Zambales experience - like how poisonous ants bit into my right foot which is now swelling real bad, how I almost knocked my head against a huge rock because I wanted to have a picture standing on it and I slipped (luckily, I caught my balance). And I still got a picture on that rock. Haha. After risking my life huh? Haha.

Friends, feel free to browse my patented pictures wherever I upload it. I said friends, not strangers/stalkers. Okay?

Visit my Photobucket and Merryl’s Multiply for more paparazzi pics. Haha.

Next stop: Caramoan Islands (all of 6)
