The first part of our Northern Luzon expedition was a huge success. Out of all my friends that I invited to join, only 3 of them showed up! It wasn’t so bad, you know. I actually expected that only Ghi, my best friend would surely tag along with me because I know her too well that when she says yes, she’d travel for miles just to get her ass right here. She may not make it on the dot most of the time, but at least she never let me down. And yes, just for this trip and just because I said we could meet up with her boyfriend (LOL), she obliged and endured a 400km stretch on her butt.
December 8, Saturday
I picked her up from the Kamuning MRT station at 9 am and took her to my place to eat some breakfast before going boarding another bus to Pampanga to meet Jed. But before that, we had to wait for Joan to arrive first. Initially, we’re already determined to leave her if we weren’t able to contact her but she said she’d arrive late because something came up. So that’s 2.5 hours of waiting before we hit the road. Yeah, that was a drag.
We arrived at Dau bus terminal a quarter before 13:00 and we’re already starving! We’re supposed to meet Jed at that station, but the only time he answered his phone was the time the incessant ringing finally woke him up. He’s only 15 minutes away from there, so we decided to get something to eat first while waiting. When he arrived, we went to look for an ATM to get some cash - resorts in Bolinao do not accept credit cards. We also bought bags of groceries just in case the local stores has already closed by the time we get there. We got everything in the bag - except beer. And that’s just a mistake, you’ll know why LATER as I intend to write a detailed account of the whole trip. LOL.
Back at the terminal, bus conductors told us that the next trip to Bolinao was still INDEFINITE. That means, we could only hope for a bus headed to Bolinao because it may not even come. This is what I didn’t get to read about in virtual tourist sites - bus schedules in terminals vary! Only buses coming from Manila have an hourly trip schedule - but from Dau, Pampanga?! Oh, you wish! They don’t even bother to call their head office to ask about bus schedules, they only tell you to wait or get on an ordinary bus instead. If you could endure sitting there with smoke belchers blowing directly at your face for 6 hours and if you could take the risk of developing Bell’s palsy with one side of your face exposed to chilling breeze - you won’t have any problems, I assure you.
I could take a few hours, but not 6 straight hours for crying out loud! So, we took an alternative route - we squeezed ourselves into the air-conditioned bus going to Alaminos, Pangasinan at around 4pm. From there, hopefully, it would be easier to take another bus to Bolinao. Besides, we don’t think we have much of a choice. We just wanted to get the hell out of there before I lose my cool. Haha.
Four hours trip to Alaminos made me a little sad to think that I won’t get the chance to capture the sundown on the beach! I could already see the sinking sun outside my window and I watched it until the darkness fell on the road. Then, to my surprise, the bus conductor fed a videoke CD into the dvd player and we started belting out songs by David Pomeranz and Kenny Logins out of boredom! Think: Prom Night. LOL. Anyway, they have no wireless microphone so we all just sang together and filled our spot with laughter. Haha! Before we know it, we’re already popping soda cans and throwing nasty remarks at each other. What a bunch of crazy people. Hilarious!
Alaminos, Pangasinan
We came 3 minutes too late for the bus to Bolinao and had to wait for almost an hour. Some tricycle drivers were chatting up with me in their local dialect (pangalatok) and I kept answering back in Tagalog. It went on for about a few minutes before they noticed that I wasn’t from there. My Mom is from Pangasinan though so I could understand their dialect and I could speak a little.
At around 9:30pm, the bus finally came and we bid our goodbyes to all the extremely helpful ones who stood alongside with us. Hehe.
